A young dog named Mrs. Greg was discovered wandering the streets alone. An animal control officer promptly rescued her and took her to a local animal shelter.
Mrs. Greg’s condition was so dire that the initial shelter couldn’t provide the care she needed. Fortunately, she was soon transferred to Austin Pets Alive! – a shelter equipped to provide her with the necessary care.
“Mrs. Greg was in a dire state. She was diagnosed with parvovirus and had a severe case of sarcoptic mange,” said Luis Sanchez, the Director of Public Relations and Communications at Austin Pets Alive!, in a conversation with The Dodo.
Typically, a pup diagnosed with parvo has a grim prognosis. However, Mrs. Greg was determined to defy the odds and recover.
However, Mrs. Greg’s recovery from mange took a bit longer, and her fur refused to regrow.
Despite the staff’s concerns that her appearance might hinder her chances of adoption, one individual saw beyond her physical condition and recognized her true spirit.
Mrs. Greg, now renamed Winnie, found a new home with Olivia, a remarkable woman committed to aiding her new pup’s full recovery and ensuring she lived her life to the fullest.
A Fresh Start
Despite ongoing health challenges, Winnie remained resilient.
“Her battle with parvo and mange in the shelter was tough, and even after adoption, it took some time for her to fully recover. She continued to fall ill and had digestive problems, but she remained a fighter and a cheerful puppy throughout,” Olivia shared with The Dodo.
Olivia was uncertain if Winnie’s fur would ever regrow or if her appearance would remain as it was, but it was irrelevant – she adored her courageous pup regardless.
Yet, Winnie had a surprise in store – she grew the most beautiful fur coat, astonishing everyone!
“I’m astounded by the amount of fur she has now. It seems to keep increasing!” exclaimed Olivia.
Winnie has fully released her past and welcomed her new life with her fresh appearance.
Transitioning from a hairless, unwell dog to the most adorable, fluffy puppy, Winnie demonstrated to everyone the transformative power of patience and love for a pup.
