Being an overlooked dog in a shelter is not easy. Watching your friends leave while you stay behind must be tough, especially if you’re a friendly, sociable pup like Rush!
This adorable Pit Bull was brought to SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center in Dayton, Ohio as a stray puppy. After being adopted once, he was returned to the shelter and has since been searching for a family to call his own.
His longing for a forever home was so strong that he did something incredibly sweet to stand out!
Life Without a Family
It must have been hard for Rush to spend his life without a permanent home. Every time someone visited the shelter, his hopes would rise, only to see another dog leave with a new family.
Despite this, Rush never lost hope or his enthusiasm for finding a home. He remained a good boy, challenging the stereotype that Pit Bulls are aggressive.
A Heartwarming Moment
One day, Rush tried something new – he grabbed a bed sheet with his mouth and neatly tucked it around his bed to make it look presentable!
The SICSA volunteers were amazed when they saw this. Leah, one of the volunteers, filmed Rush making his bed, and the video quickly went viral.
Millions of people around the world watched the video, their hearts warmed by Rush’s sweet gesture. He continued making his bed every day, hopeful that a family would notice.
The Perfect Family Arrives
Leah’s video changed Rush’s fate. Applications to adopt him poured in, but one couple from Dayton, Ohio stood out.
Angie and Ronnie Wallace had recently lost their dog to a degenerative disease and weren’t ready to adopt again. However, after seeing Rush’s video, they felt compelled to meet him.
“She said, ‘I think I want him,’ and I said, ‘Okay,’” recalls Ronnie.
They visited the shelter, and an instant bond was formed. Rush welcomed his new parents with open paws, thrilled to finally leave his kennel for good.
Even in his new life, Rush never forgot his origins. His new mom took him back to visit the shelter, where he greeted everyone with sweet kisses.
Jessie, Rachel, Sydney, and his foster parents, Allison and Mike, were all delighted to see Rush so happy and fulfilled.
They always knew he was a good boy; he just needed the right time and the right people to see it too.
