Well Done, Mother, Your Puppies Have Arrived
The sight of a new canine mother lying powerless beside her newborns, who had just entered the world a few hours ago, was heart-wrenching.
The image was crying out, pleading, and begging for assistance!
This unfortunate dog mother had no energy remaining.
How could she muster strength when she was shattered in so many ways?
Her collar indicated that her previous owners had abandoned her earlier. It might have been due to her pregnancy. Deprived of adequate food, water, or shelter, this gentle creature was wandering the streets, seeking a tranquil place to deliver her babies.
However, plans don’t always materialize. Labor took her by surprise, and she had to give birth in the very spot she found herself: out in the open, on a piece of cardboard.
Six puppies were born into this world. Tragically, two of them had already become angels by the time their mother brought them forth.
Despite being drained to her very limits, the mother dog summoned the last vestiges of her strength and rose to her feet as soon as she noticed people approaching. She was determined to protect her offspring.
She didn’t comprehend that these people were there to assist her. She was in full defense mode, acting hostile and doing everything in her power to safeguard her babies. It seemed as if she was unaware that people can sometimes be kind, and not everyone is out to harm her.
The rescue team endured three attacks from the mother before they were able to secure her and transport her and her puppies to a safe location.
Once at the shelter, the rescuers were relieved to find that the mother had sufficient milk to nourish her pups. Now, it was time to attend to the mother’s needs.
She was famished, utterly spent, and yearning for a satisfying meal.
On that day, the mother dog ate thrice, a deviation from the usual one to two meals a day for dogs. She consumed about 5 pounds of liver in her first two meals alone, indicating her extreme hunger.
Following the crucial initial 48 hours, the puppies were doing well. They began to grow, open their eyes, and bask in the joys of being puppies.
The mother was also faring well, although she remained somewhat traumatized and wary of humans. However, that’s understandable. With time, it’s hoped that she will learn to trust humans again.
If not for the compassionate people, animal lovers, and rescuers, the unfortunate mother and her puppies would have succumbed to starvation.
After enduring so much hardship in her young life, the mother dog finally received the life she deserved.
We understand that we can’t rescue all stray dogs, nor can we adopt them all or eradicate global hunger. However, we can certainly spare a few dollars to feed the dogs on our streets. If everyone contributed, the number of stray dogs in need could be significantly reduced.
