Willie Nelson rescued 70 horses from a slaughterhouse to let them roam freely at his Texas ranch

Not only is he still performing at 85 years old, but he also has more than 30 films and numerous books to his name.

The star is often on the road, but when he’s not, you can usually find him on his ranch in the Texas Hill Country. Earlier this year, the singer rescued 70 horses just in time—they were about to be sent to the slaughterhouse and then to a glue factory. It’s a terrible fate for these kind and majestic animals, and sadly, there are more wild horses in holding pens than in the wild.

As a horse lover, Willie couldn’t let that happen. The singer, songwriter, poet, and activist moved the horses to his Texas ranch, Luck Ranch, located about 30 miles from Austin.

Most of the horses he rescued were destined for the slaughterhouse. The ranch is certainly lucky, at least for the horses. There, they have plenty of space to roam and are treated like royalty.
